Two bag minimum

Stuffed neatly in my over priced coach seat aboard Delta Air, I listen
to the constant reminder that you are only afforded space for two
bags. One personal and one carry on. The personal item is to be placed
neatly under the seat in front of you. The other in the over head bin.
If the
smaller item is placed in front of you, why do people insist on
placing their carry on bags in other areas of the plane?

By stealing the space near the front of the plane instead of over your
set really screws up the storage space on the plane. Flights are often
delayed because the space above their set has been taken hostage by
some idiot in the rear of the flying tube. Too lazy to carry their
over stuffed bag to the rear or maybe just clueless, they have now
forced those around me to wander the aisles looking for empty space.
This often holds up everine in the jetway and in the aisle behind the
owner of 17D. His or her bag is now placed back in 31C, not far from
the offender that left their feedbag over 17D.

Now the flight attendants ate getting impatient and start moving
rapidly up and down the aisle, bumping every shoulder sticking out in
the aisle. A high pitched voice makes and announcment that "we can
leave until everyone has taken their seat!" Half the plane is standing
in the aisle and the other half in the jetway. This is a viscious
cycle, it is not just one traveler that places their bag in someone
elses spot but a great number. It has become the norm. I wonder how
much money and time would be saved if we just utilized the space
giving to us? How many connecting flights have been missed due to the
selfish nature of travelers? We are all trying to arrive safely at the
same destination. A little common sense would go along way, it might
also make our lives a little bit easier. Think before you grab that
empty space in the front of the plane, how late will you make us all...

Magic kingdom here we come

I travel from my home town of Orlando at least once a month for
various destinations around the United States. I usually travel early
in the morning to allow myself a complete day once I reach my
destination, where ever that may be. My usual partners in travel are
the business type, heads barrier in Usa today or WSJ. Very few kids....

Now, the return trip is quite a bit different. There are no less than
10 families with two or three wired kids each. Each child is running
around the Gate area wound up on what ever junk food the parents have
purchased, since meals are no longer provided on US flights. The meals
are generally purchased from the numerous fast food traps that are
situated between various gates. Oh, there are few healthy choices but
these are generally not an option for this type of traveler.

Questions are asked but ignored, request are made and fall on deaf
ears. The parents only perk up when little Billy slaps his little
sister for eating one his fries. " apologize to your sister, or I
will through that food away". Yea, no aplogy and the food sits in
front of Billy untile cold and goes to waste anyway.

All of these families are heading to the 'Mouse trap' also known as
Disney World. A high priced, over crowded series of amusment items
spread out over thousands of acres of land. A series of trains, buses,
horse pulled carriages and cars can wisk you from end to end. Unless
your a Brit and choose to walk every where you go.

It doesn't matter what day of the week I return, there are always kids
flying into Orlando. Don't these kids have school? Is there a holiday
that I missed? I can't figure out the scheduling of these trips. They
are not cheap and these kids aren't learning a damn thing. Not to
mention none of the parents look remotely happy. They are not building
up the suspence or interacting with these attention straved children.
The kids are left to wonder and entertain themselves. Did we forget
our first visit to the Magic Kingdom or do not care? Either way the
executives at Disney should be very pleased that people are coming to
spend money, ride the rides and leave exhausted needing another
vacation away from the hyper little people they call their own.

United we fly

My morning started pretty typical, up at 4:30, to the couch, social
network check in. 5:30 shower, finish packing and kiss my wife and
son. Out the door to the aeroport for flight to Chi-town. Arrive at
aeroport, no problem with security, cup of Cafe Cubano and to the gate.
This is when my morning went from good to great. Checked in with agent
and shared a little small talk. She suggested an upgrade and I
graviosly declined, bid her a good morning and sat in waiting area. 15
minutes into my iPhone check in she walks over and hands me an upgrded
seat assignment just so, as she put it, experience premier plus. You
might say big deal, but it is. A simple smile and kind word was
returned with an equally kind gesture.
I don't experience that much any more. The unity that I had felt
from my fellow man due to unspeakble events has worn off. People are
back to mind their own lives and cRing about número UNO. This is not a
bad thing but is nice to see the kindness in people surface every once
in a while. It really did make my day!
Thank you United

HOA...what good are they?

You know renting was so much easier and stress free. But home ownership is not bad, in fact it is a wonderful thing. Except for my useless Homeowners Association.

The Gatlin Place HOA charges $250.00 a year and is supposed to take care of the neighborhood. As far as I can tell, the current board took on more then they could handle. The rules of the HOA are not enforced, the website is not maintained and the residents really do not step up to help. It looks as though I am going to be that guy, you know the one that stirs shit up just to get results.

I am unable to walk through my neighborhood with my son without walking through the streets instead of the sidewalk. Why you ask? Because people pile so much shit in their garages that they can't pull their cars into the garage. Evidently these residents don't believe in throwing stuff away. Let's keep it for a raining day attitudes. But I should not be surprised, this is the attitude of most Americans. Because they are all hoarders in training their cars are stacked end to end and over lap the sidewalk. This is compounded by the unauthorized garage sales every freakn weekend. You now have professional hoarders of other people cast offs driving way too fast through the neighborhood.

Lawn care and landscaping issues are not enforced by the HAO. I have neighbors that could careless what their lawns or the exterior of their homes look like. There are more weeds and long grass then is allowed. The board does nothing about this. It is sad that I paid good money for a home in a neighborhood where a section of the residents don't give a damn. It is even sadder that I pay someone to care and enforce the laws of the community. I have no recourse but to complain yet again. If I could oust the current board I would.

I'm not sure if the rest of you have experience a situation such as this but if you have I feel your pain. The HOA is set up to assist it's residence not make excuses that they are not able to catch all infractions. If you can't do the job, step aside and let someone else take charge.

Airports and their lines

As I enter the Orlando airport this morning to catch my flight to San Francisco, I was met by a very long line. This line, apparently was for one counter with one ticket agent. But there were 15 self-check kiosk open just to the left of the main counter. The maze that everyone was standing in had numerous openings leading to these kiosk. I stepped out of the line and up to a kiosk where I was greeted by a very pleasant women from Ireland. I asked why no one was using the kiosk and she said she had no idea.
After I checked my boarding pass and luggage, I proceeded to the drop my bag off with TSA for screening. There was yet another line of people waiting to hand in their bags. This line was blocking the flow of traffic to the rest of the terminal area. Even though TSA informed the passengers to leave their bags, they were ignored. I calmly place my bag over the stanchion and proceeded to security. People were still not listening to the agents.
Once I reach the security check point I was met by a huge line. But there were 4 other agents with no one in their lines. I picked the closest agent and went through security. Half of the other line followed me but did not take advantage of the other three free agents.
the check point line funneled into one bag check lane, but there were 6 open lanes. I walked to the furthest line for fear of starting a stampede. No one followed. All of these lines severely haulted the flow of traffic in this part of the airport.
What I gathered from all of this is that people are too willing to follow the crowd. I am not sure if it is because they are scared to go it alone or maybe they don't know any better. Either way there are way too many followers in the world and not enough leaders. There should be at least one leader per 10 people or something like that. But it does not seem like there was one leader for the hundreds I saw this morning.
The world might be a better place if there were more everyday leaders. I am not speaking of the CEOs or Presidents that get paid to lead but the everyday, run of the mill people that really need to step up. Step up and take control of the situation. I am not saying we should break the rules but if is clear that there is an obstructed path, we should take it. If you choose to follow, you will always be in the dark until the person in front of you moves forward. You will not have a plan or know your destination. This is one of the situation in our society that needs to be addressed. People are too willing to please and fall in line. Make your own path and see who follows you.

Walking...a strang new world

My son has started walking and he seems so pleased with himself. Do you remember when something you did excited you so much? His world changes with each step and he is more than satisfied. He strolls from
Place to another discovering new items at each pit stop. He gets bored and moves on, with an occassional fall and whine but always staying his course. We can learn alot from our children, take one step at a time, savor the moment and appreciate the course.
I have lost sight of this as so many of us do. We need to appreciate the small journeys we take everyday.

Tainted

I have grown numb to the reports of suspected steroid use in Major League Baseball. This supposed list of 100 names that no body has but keeps being exposed 1 to 5 players at a time. Enough already, release the names on the entire list and let's move forward. This systematic releasing of the names is just not good for anyone. Put it out there and let us move on. The speculation of the other names is killing baseball one news report at a time. Negative press is never good.

I do not condone the use of performance enhancing drugs at any level. But let's be real, it is a part of our sports culture and has been for as long as I can remember. Numerous studies have shown steriods to be very dangerous, but people still use them. We also know that smoking causes cancer, but the thought of death has not stopped smokers. My point is this, these men that use performance enhancing drugs know the dangers but still use them. WHO CARES!!!! Everyone is responsible for their own actions. Move on there is nothing to see here....

Now my beloved Sox are tainted with the speculation that Big Poppy tested positive in 2003. His attitude is to move forward. He is suprised that he tested positive. His teammates rallied around him just as the Yanks did for A Rod, they are waiting for positive confirmation. UUUMMMMM if his name is on the list then he tested positve, right? What is there to wait for? So what happens when it is "confirmed"? Will he be run out of Boston? Will the homeless issue be solved or our economy turn around? No, none of the above. The media will posture and conjecture, baseball's die hard fans will find another savior. This player will remain so until his name is released from the list. Then the cycle will start all over again.

Enough is enough, these are extremely talented men playing a great game. Watching them play at best allows you to escape to a safe place for 5 hours with friends and family. It is pure entertainment and nothing more. If you think other wise, you are entitles to your opinion but you would be wrong. Baseball, Football, Golf and Basketball, to name a few, are just sports. Have fun playing them or watching them, but do not put so much stock in them.

I know I am clean and 98% of you reading this are clean as well. Do you feel any diffferent knowing that I am clean? I did not think so, I am only important to my loved one and of course myself. Ortiz is only important to his family and friends as well.
