One thought they could be conveying is that we are looking for someone with less experience so we can pay them less. Why, if you are trying to run a successful business would you hire anyone with less experience? The amount of time and money you will spend bringing that person up to speed is a big waste.
What I have found is that a commitement of a large amount of money is never preferred. But spend the same amount of money with the Nickle and Dime approach is exceptable. Not sure why this type of thinking is excepted, but I find it more often than not.
You are 'Over Qualified' could also mean, we want to be a successful business but we would rather give the immpression rather than really become the best. Let's face it, once you are considered the best you are expected to remain the best. To remain the best you will have to spend money and come up with new ideas. What fun would that be for a business owner? Hard work would replace hanging out at the club with your buddies. So average it is...Average is now synomous with success.
'Over Qualified' could also mean, you are too smart for this job and you will be bored out of your mind. If this is the case then why did you post the job? Someone in corporate said there was some money availalbe for a new position, go hire someone. Some third tier manager posts the job without any idea what the position will require. 50 or so people apply for the job and most are 'Over Qualified'. Someone will be hired and the business will have wasted 10s of 1000s of dollars looking for someone to fill some job that really was not needed.
'Over Qualified' can also mean, the applicant is smarter than the hiring manager. The fear of losing their job causes the words to flow from their mouth, you're over qualified and there is no room for advancement. The problem with this is that the hiring manager can't even fill the position. If they could they would have been promoted. Then the job interview would be to fill the empty position instead of a search for an unqualified applicant.
Times are tough for everyone and we all want to make a profit. But just posting jobs is not good for anyone. Post postions that you really want filled. Hire the best you can find and make your business stronger. Do not settle for the average person and do not settle for being average. Think of whatt your company needs to be the best, come up with a game plan and implement it.
Happy Hunting........
